Car trunk packed for a beach day with chairs, cooler, umbrella, and beach bag

The Perfect Beach Day Packing List

The best beach days feel spontaneous, but they're quietly built the night before. The difference between a golden ten-hour beach day and a cranky three-hour one usually comes down to what made it into the car.

Here's the complete packing list, organized the way you actually pack — by where things go.

The night before (10 minutes that save the day)

  • Fill and freeze water bottles halfway — top off in the morning for all-day cold. A half-gallon bottle like our 64oz with the carrier boot covers two people till sunset.
  • Freeze a few water bottles or juice boxes to double as cooler ice that becomes cold drinks by noon.
  • Charge your phone and the portable battery.
  • Check the wind forecast — it decides the umbrella question.

The beach bag

  1. Sunscreen — lotion for the morning coat, stick for reapplying at the beach
  2. Sunglasses + hat
  3. A book or nothing — the beach is allowed to be the entertainment
  4. Dry bag for phone, keys, and the ride home's wet suits
  5. Small first-aid pouch: bandaids, tweezers (splinters from boardwalks are undefeated), pain reliever
  6. Lip balm with SPF — the most-forgotten item on every list
  7. A camp shirt or cover-up that's presentable enough for the lunch spot

The cooler

  • The frozen bottles from last night (ice that becomes drinks)
  • Cold fruit — grapes and watermelon outperform everything else in the sand
  • Sandwiches wrapped in foil, not bags (foil survives cooler puddles)
  • Something salty to replace what the ocean takes

The car pile

  • Blanket + chairs — blanket for the group, a chair for whoever claims it first
  • Umbrella or shade sail (if the wind forecast approved)
  • Towels — one to dry, one to sit on, per person
  • The trash bag that makes you the good kind of beach person
  • A jug of tap water for rinsing feet before the car — the secret to a sand-free ride home

Wear, don't pack

Swimsuit on under your clothes — beach parking lot changing is a young person's game. A breathable shirt over it, sandals, hat on head. You arrive ready.

The 60-second door check

Water ✗ Sunscreen ✗ Shade ✗ Cooler ✗ Dry bag ✗ Trash bag ✗ Phone charged ✗ — if all seven check, everything else is a luxury.

Most of the load-out above — from the bottles in our insulated collection to shirts made for the lunch-spot walk — lives at Kimara Coast. Built for the ten-hour kind of beach day.
